Cherubim Crusader: Awilix Community Skin Contest

The eyes of man often cannot bear to gaze upon Cherubim Crusader Awilix, for her purity and sheer power force them to avert their eyes in fear. She fights for truth and shows mercy to none. Any who oppose her light often meet the fangs of her faithful mount Ezek, taking the form of a cat of old, something man has not seen for many thousands of years. Her un-earthly form only seems to make her even more fearful to behold as she leaps from the heavens on the back of Ezek, wielding her spear against any defiler of the light.

I decided to enter this year's community skin contest, for one of my favorite goddesses in Smite, Awilix!

Getting this design to a place I liked... actually took me a while. I sketched at least 12 different ideas until I got something I was happy with. I wanted to pull away slightly from a more conventional 'angelic look', taking inspiration from Bayonetta's depictions of angels and many early Renaissance and Baroque paintings of double and tripled winged cherubim and angels. 

All in all, I had fun designing a skin for Awilix and am glad I decided to enter, whether or not I win. It made me realize that throwing a design together in two weeks is a bit of a challenge and I almost didn't make it, so I felt like I learned a thing or two while working on this.
